How many ferries go from the UK to Spain?
Four direct routes. Plymouth to Santander, Portsmouth to Santander, Portsmouth to Bilbao and Rosslare to Bilbao in Ireland. All four are operated by Brittany Ferries. See the full route comparison.
Which is the fastest crossing?
Plymouth to Santander, at 20 hours 30 minutes. It is also the only one with a single night at sea rather than two.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the season, how far ahead you book, whether you bring a vehicle and what accommodation you choose. Accommodation is compulsory because every crossing is overnight. Our cheapest crossing guide walks through what actually moves the price.
Can I take my dog?
Yes. Every Brittany Ferries sailing to Spain takes dogs, in a pet-friendly cabin or an onboard kennel. You cannot leave an animal in your car on these routes, and dogs must be muzzled outside the cabin. Pet cabins are limited and sell out early.
Do I need a passport?
Yes, for every passenger including children. Spain also requires your passport to have been issued within the last ten years and to be valid for at least three months beyond your departure from the EU.
Can I sail to Spain in winter?
Portsmouth to Santander runs year round. The Bilbao routes drop to one sailing a week, and Plymouth to Santander stops entirely from early November until late March.
